PTI Chairman rejects Omar Ayub's resignation on Imran Khan's directives

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, following the directives of Founding Chairman Imran Khan, has announced that the resignation of Omar Ayub Khan as Central General Secretary has not been accepted.

Omar Ayub Khan has been instructed to continue his duties as the central general secretary. The PTI parliamentary party and the central committee have also expressed their full confidence in Ayub.

The parliamentary party and the central committee unanimously adopted resolutions recommending Founding President Imran Khan and President Barrister Gohar Ali Khan not to accept Ayub's resignation.

Imran Khan also praised Ayub's services and sacrifices for the PTI.

The parliamentary party PTI last month expressed disagreement over the decision of the party's founding chairman Imran Khan to accept the resignation of PTI Secretary General Omar Ayub, urging him to do a U-turn and reappoint Ayub to the post.

The demand by the party's parliamentary factions came 24 hours after the jailed PTI founder endorsed the decision of Ayub, who is also the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, to resign from his party post.

Confusion reigns within the PTI over Ayub's resignation amid rumours of rifts within the party. On one hand, the party has announced that it will hold rallies for the party chief's release. On the other hand, the general secretary has quit the key party post to focus on parliamentary affairs.
