Kumamoto – The Kirin Cycling Race Course in Kumamoto, which was closed after the Kumamoto earthquake in April 2016, has been restored and is now open in the city's Chuo area.

During the earthquake, the track or velodrome developed cracks, and the windows in the spectator stands were shattered, rendering the track unusable.

Work on reopening the facility began in October 2021. The 500-metre inclined track was shortened to the more common length of 400 metres, and the track finally reopened on June 15. On July 20, races were held for the first time in nearly eight years, with enthusiastic fans cheering on the riders.

When the track was rebuilt, the seating capacity was also reduced to about 4,000 people from about 12,000 before the earthquake. The track now has special indoor seating where fans can watch the races on screens, as well as group seating. A parking lot for about 300 vehicles will be built in the next fiscal year.

In February 2026, the Yomiuri Shimbun All-Japan Kirin Cup will be held at the racetrack, the first Grade 1 race to be held there in about 20 years.
