Match Summary: Sounders FC draw 2-2 at home with San Jose Earthquakes

SEATTLE, Wash. – Sounders FC (13-9-8, 47 points) tied 2-2 at home with the San Jose Earthquakes (5-21-3, 18 points) Wednesday night at Emerald Queen Casino at Lumen Field. Jordan Morris scored twice for the home side, taking his regular-season goal tally to 13, a single-season high for a forward, but a late equalizer from San Jose sent each team home with a point. Brian Schmetzer’s team had a week off from MLS action and returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 28 against Houston Dynamo FC at Lumen Field (7:30 p.m. PT/Apple TV, iHeartMedia Seattle, EL Rey 1360 AM).

After tonight's draw, Sounders FC remains in fifth place in MLS' Western Conference, level on points with fourth-place Colorado (but behind the Rapids via tiebreaker) and two points behind third-place Los Angeles FC.

Tonight's result gives the Rough Greens a three-game unbeaten streak (two wins and a tie dating back to Sept. 7 in Columbus).

The Sounders have four regular-season games remaining, all against Western Conference teams (two at home and two away). Ruff Green has one win and one draw in those three current home games. The club hosts Houston Dynamo FC on Saturday, September 28.

Jordan Morris scored twice in the 21st and 39th minutes to take his tally to 13 goals this year, surpassing his highest tally in a single MLS season from 2016 (12 goals in the 2016 regular season). In all competitions, the Mercer Island native has scored 17 goals, also his best in a single season.

Tonight's game was the second game in which Morris has scored more than one league goal in 2024 (June 22 vs FC Dallas).

Morris has now scored seven goals against San Jose in MLS regular season matches, which puts him second only to Raul Ruidiaz in Sounders FC history against Quakes (nine goals).

Pedro de la Vega was credited with an assist on Morris' first goal, his first assist since joining Sounders FC earlier this year.

Today's draw brings Seattle CC's all-time record against San Jose to 15-15-10 in regular season games, with San Jose retaining the Heritage Cup (winner of the annual Seattle-San Jose series).

Since Sounders FC entered MLS in 2009, Seattle and San Jose have tied in the Heritage Cup series with eight wins each.

Seattle is now 7-2-6 at Lumen Field in 2024.
