Roeper named NFHCA Offensive Player of the Week
Manahawkin, NJ James Madison hockey midfielder Alice Roeper was recognized as the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Offensive Player of the Week after a four-goal weekend, the organization announced Wednesday afternoon.
This is Roeper's first weekly career award, and the first for the program since then Eveline Zwager was named NFHCA Offensive Player of the Week on September 21, 2022.
The junior led the JMU offense with four goals and had eight points this weekend, helping the Dukes improve to 6-2 overall with a 2-0 mark in MAC play. Roeper scored the game-winning goal to hold off Central Michigan in a 3-2 win on Friday before recording her first career hat trick in a 7-0 win over Queens (NC) on Sunday. Her three goals against the Royals are the most by a MAC player this season.
Roeper was also credited with the game-winning goal on Sunday, her third of the 2024 campaign, which tied for the most in the conference. Meanwhile, her seven goals in seven games give her a MAC-leading average of 1.00 goals per game. Roeper's seven goals also rank first in the league, while she is second in the conference with 15 points (7g, 1a).
Nationally, Roeper's 1.00 goals per game ranks sixth and her 2.14 points per game ranks 12th in the Division I rankings.
The Dukes travel to the Buckeye State on Friday, Oct. 4 to take on Mid-American Conference foe Ohio. The game at Pruitt Field is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
