Embarrassing: BBC cancels Boris Johnson interview after host Laura Kuenssberg emails ex-PM her research notes
LONDON, October 3 The BBC has canceled a prime-time interview with former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson after one of its best-known presenters accidentally sent him prepared notes for his questions.
Laura Kuenssberg, the BBC's former political editor and now host of its flagship Sunday morning news programme, said she had mistakenly sent Johnson the notes in a message to my team, meaning the interview had to be canceled.
It's very frustrating, and there's no point pretending it's anything other than embarrassing and disappointing, because there are a lot of important questions to ask, Kuenssberg said on X. But red faces aside , honesty is the best policy.
As a public broadcaster, the BBC faces close scrutiny over how it holds politicians to account, with top political correspondents often accused on social media of favoring one party over another .
The interview was scheduled to air Thursday evening and had been billed as Johnson's first major television interview to promote his memoir. Johnson was due to discuss his government's handling of the Covid-19 pandemic and the parties in Downing Street that contributed to the end of his premiership.
Johnson, who served as prime minister from 2019 to 2022, will publish his memoir, Unleashed, on October 10.
A BBC spokesperson said the error made the interview untenable and that the channel and Johnson's team had agreed to cancel it. Reuters
