Germany suspects sabotage behind cut submarine cables | BBC News

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said the damage to two submarine cables in the Baltic Sea was an act of sabotage. A 1,170-kilometer (730-mile) telecommunications cable between Finland and Germany was cut in the early hours of Monday, and a 218-kilometer internet connection between Lithuania and the Swedish island of Gotland was down on Sunday. The incidents came at a time of heightened tensions with Russia, and Pistorius said “no one believes those cables were accidentally cut”.
