CDC confirms first U.S. child infected with bird flu

Alameda County, California – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed the first confirmed case of H5 avian influenza in a child in the United States.

On Friday, the CDC reported that the virus, also known as H5N1, was found in a child in California.

The child lives in Alameda County, according to the California Department of Public Health. Officials said the case was discovered after the child showed mild symptoms and was given anti-influenza virus drugs.
