The US Fish and Wildlife Service has released footage capturing the moment a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Northern California. The video shows how birds in the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge complex and surrounding Sacramento Valley areas reacted to the tremors.

The powerful earthquake shook a sparsely populated area in Northern California on Thursday (December 5), forcing many to evacuate low-lying areas amid a tsunami warning by authorities, which was later cancelled.

The US Fish and Wildlife Service has now shared a video showing how wildlife reacts to strong tremors.

Webcam footage at the Sacramento complex shows waterfowl foraging and wading in wetlands.

Even the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge complex and areas across the Sacramento Valley felt the shaking! The quake occurred at 10:44 a.m. Pacific time, while authorities canceled the tsunami warning, which extended along 500 miles (800 km) of the coasts of California and Oregon, after about 90 minutes of tremors, according to the National Weather Service. .

No deaths or injuries have been reported so far. The US Geological Survey said the quake's epicenter was about 39 miles (63 km) west of the town of Ferndale.

As many as 4.7 million Californians and Oregonians were under a tsunami warning before it was cancelled.
