US 35 reopens after deadly crash involving tractor-trailers

GALLIA COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) – U.S. Highway 35 was closed in both directions following a multi-vehicle crash Wednesday, according to Gallia County Emergency Management.

The crash happened around 10:41 a.m. near a rest area, about 2 miles east of Rio Grande, authorities said.

The roadway reopened Wednesday evening.

Authorities informed our crew at the scene that three tractor-trailers were involved in the accident and one of them had caught fire.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a tractor-trailer driven by Jason Roaden, 54, of Fairfield, Ohio, was westbound on US35 when he struck the rear of another tractor-trailer also in the westbound lanes.

After the collision, the tractor-trailer driven by Roaden left the roadway, caught fire and overturned.

Roaden was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by the Gallia County coroner.

Portsmouth City Schools decided to cancel Wednesday junior high home and Gallia County games due to ongoing traffic delays associated with the fatal crash.
