Arrest sought for former LSU football star
Kyren Lacy, 24, is wanted by Louisiana State Police for negligent homicide, hit-and-run and reckless operation of a vehicle.
THIBODAUX, La. Louisiana State Police issued an arrest warrant Friday for former LSU football star Kyren Lacy, 24, in connection with a fatal crash in Thibodaux.
Troopers said they contacted Lacy and his legal representation to turn themselves in. Troop C confirmed in a statement to WWL that Lacy is the former LSU football player.
“We have no comment at this time out of respect for the legal process,” an LSU spokesperson, Zach Greenwell, told our partners at NOLA.com.
State police said the crash resulted in the death of 78-year-old Herman Hall of Thibodaux. The accident happened on December 17 last year on LA Highway 20 near Perez Lane.
Trooper's investigation later identified Lacy as the driver of a 2023 Dodge Charger who “recklessly passed multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed,” according to a news release. Lacy crossed the center line into the northbound lane while in an exclusion zone and illegally drove past other cars.
At the same time, a pickup truck driver spotted Lacy, abruptly hit the brakes and swerved to the right to avoid a head-on collision with Lacy, state police said.
Behind the pickup was another driver in a 2017 Kia Cadenza, who swerved to the left to prevent Lacy from driving forward in his Dodge. As the Kia made the high-speed turn, it crossed the center line and collided head-on with Hall, who was driving south in a 2017 Kia Sorento.
Hall was taken to hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Two others were also injured.
Troopers said Lacy fled the scene without stopping to render aid, calling 911 or reporting his involvement in the crash.
LSP detectives investigated the crash and identified Lacy as the driver of the Dodge Charger.
In his senior year at LSU, Lacy had a career-high 58 catches for 866 yards and nine touchdowns. He graduated in December and two days after the crash announced he was entering the 2025 NFL Draft.
Lacy was expected to be selected in the NFL draft in April.
He has also accepted an invitation to play in the Senior Bowl next month. It is not yet known whether he will participate.
The investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time.
