Can you explain how these earthquake tests do?

I got funding by NSF, and we reach ideas to make buildings safer than earthquakes. Then we work with design engineers and manufacturers to turn these ideas into reality. To complete the last step, we build large -scale buildings and place them on machines, which are on the NSF joint sites, which allow you to simulate the earthquake. We can “restart” an earthquake from history or simulate a new earthquake, measuring and monitoring the building's response to ensure that what we expected, but also so that we can provide improved bases for engineers who will design buildings [using our methods]. I work with other engineers to take model standards that follow the process of the American National Standards Institute. There are lines in the construction code that offer engineers on how to design a specific part of a building that comes directly from the work funded by NSF. I spend a huge amount of my time in the process of writing the actual construction code.

There are also specific systems with specific details (such as lightweight shear shear walls and specially detailed diaphragm systems) that engineers now use now, which allow us to have lighter, safer, more reliable and more elaborate buildings.
