Pakistan vs Australia first ODI team, Ollie Peake debut, Billy Stanlake returns, video, start time, live stream
Australian teenager Ollie Peake will make his international debut this weekend, selected for Saturday’s series opener against Pakistan in Rawalpindi, captain Josh Inglis has confirmed.
Inglis revealed that the tourists would have to take another look at the wicket before settling for a final starting XI, but the wicketkeeper was able to confirm that Peake and fast bowler Billy Stanlake would play the first ODI.
Peake, 19, becomes Australia’s fourth-youngest cricketer in men’s ODIs, wearing cap No. 252, while Stanlake makes his first international appearance since 2019.

“It’s incredibly exciting for Peakey, he has been a great asset to the group so far,” Inglis said.
“We have seen what has been done in recent years and he really deserves to be here.”
He added: “It’s a great story with Bill. He hasn’t been with the group since 2019, so the resilience he’s shown to get back on the park and put in some good performances last year, he really deserves to be here.”
At 19 years and 261 days, Peake also becomes Australia’s youngest specialist batsman in men’s ODIs, bettering Ricky Ponting’s previous record of 20 years and 58 days.
Australia will be without several first-choice players for the three-match ODI series against Pakistan, with Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh missing the tour due to IPL commitments and injuries.
Marsh was ruled out of the series earlier this week due to an ankle injury he sustained in India.
“It’s obviously disappointing to lose our skipper,” Inglis said.
“He is a big part of the group and is of course also a fantastic player.
“It’s a shame for Mitch to have to miss this tour.”
Inglis also brushed aside concerns about Australia’s inexperienced pace attack – Nathan Ellis, Riley Meredith and Stanlake have a combined 25 ODI wickets under their belts, with the likes of Ben Dwarshuis, Xavier Bartlett and Lance Morris unavailable for selection.
“We have a lot of talent in our group,” Inglis said.
“Stanlake has come back into the side after a long time and he is bowling at a seriously high pace, as is Riley Meredith, against guys there who are very exciting.
“Nathan Ellis now has a lot of experience in the white-ball format.”
The first ODI between Pakistan and Australia starts at 9pm AEST on Saturday at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
