British holidaymakers have been told to arrive three hours before their flights home, airline bosses have told them.

Wizz Air’s Moynihan said the impact of the new checks was “spread across Europe”.

There was “seamless travel,” she said, but there were long lines in “the usual hot spots like Spain, Portugal and France.”

When Moynihan traveled to Mallorca for half a semester, she said there were no queues, there were extra staff and “a significant amount of [EES] Kiosk”.

But she said airlines are generally advising passengers to prepare for long wait times.

“There may be a line when you land at your destination airport, so bring a portable charger or water,” she said.

She also highlighted the risk of queuing before flights back to the UK as people need to check their EES information when they leave.

“Because there’s another passport check…where you can see that people are again experiencing longer wait times than expected,” she said.

She said general advice is to get to the airport two hours before your flight. However, in this situation, 3 hours is advised.

Moynihan advised anyone taking a connecting flight to allow “a few hours” between flights in case of border queues.

She said border officials are actively suspending EES checks when long wait times pile up.

The European Commission says EES isn’t the only thing that can cause delays, and registering information usually only takes a minute or so.
