Former finance minister calls half-dead Prabowo ‘washing the dishes’ for Jokowi
President Prabowo Subianto would face a huge task to improve governance of Indonesia’s natural resources, seen for years as fraught with problems.
In fact, this effort amounts to such heavy “dishwashing” work that it cannot necessarily be completed in a single term of government.
This statement was made by President Soeharto’s former finance minister, Fuad Bawazier, after direct discussions with Prabowo in early May 2026.
“I met him in early May, before he gave his speech in the House of Representatives on May 20. I listened to what he said,” Fuad said, as quoted on YouTube Forum Keadilan TV, Monday (1/6).
According to Fuad, Prabowo is very serious about improving the governance of national natural resources by adhering to the mandate of Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution which emphasizes that natural resources must be controlled by the state for the greater prosperity of the people.
Fuad admitted that Prabowo understands how complicated the problems he inherited are. During their interview, the president even described the improvement process as aimed at eliminating a bunch of long-standing problems.
“It’s true that there are a lot of half-dead people doing the dishes. Maybe they won’t be done doing the dishes in five years,” Fouad said.
According to him, the practice of mining raw materials such as coal, nickel, gold, uranium and thorium over the years has caused huge losses to the country.

“Sorry to say that, the term is actually vol. Coal, nickel, gold, uranium, thorium, everything,” he pointed out.
Fuad also called the 10-year period of the administration of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, the most severe period in terms of natural resource exploitation practice.
“The worst theft of our natural resources happened during Mr. Jokowi’s 10 years,” he said.
