Al-Hajri: The attendance at five clubs underlines the increasing interest in para-table tennis

KUWAIT CITY, June 27: The opening Combined Para Table Tennis Championship of the 2026-2027 season starts today at 5pm and brings together more than 30 athletes from different handicap classifications and age groups.

The competition features participants from five clubs – Al-Irada, Mubarak Al-Kabeer, Al-Tahadi, Kuwait Sports Club for the Disabled and Warba – highlighting the growing popularity of the sport in Kuwait.

The opening tournament will take place at the Kuwait Sports Club for the Disabled in Hawalli. Play will be in a single-elimination format, in accordance with the rules of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).

Chairman of the Paralympic Table Tennis Committee Duaij Al-Hajri said that all organizational and technical preparations had been completed to ensure the success of the event, and that every participating athlete had been officially registered.

“In collaboration with the Public Authority for Sports, we have secured specialized tables specifically designed for para-table tennis, allowing players greater freedom of movement during competition,” Al-Hajri said. “International referees from the Kuwait Table Tennis Association will officiate the matches.”

Al-Hajri added that the participation of five clubs in the season-opening championship reflects the growing interest in para-table tennis and the continued development of the sport across the country.
