THE SIGN INDICATES PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. AND THIS NAME BECOMES OFFICIAL TODAY. WHILE SEVERAL AIRPORTS ARE NAMED BY PAST PRESIDENTS, PRESIDENT Trump is the first president to have an airport named in his honor while still in office. HIS SON ERIC TRUMP, Posting this on Instagram this morning, showing TRUMP FORCE ONE, the President’s personal plane landing here on the tarmac at Donald J. TRUMP International Airport, saying the plane landed at 501 o’clock in the morning and it was the first plane to land here this morning. WITH THE NEW CHANGE, HE ALSO RELEASED A NEW VIDEO OF INSIDE THE COCKPIT. NOW, AS THE NAME CHANGE COMES INTO EFFECT TODAY, AIRPORT OFFICIALS INDICATE THAT SIGNAL AND BRANDING UPDATES WILL HAPPEN IN PHASES. We started seeing some of these road signs change on I-95 last week, but as of this morning, some still remain. PALM BEACH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AND SOME SIGNS HERE AT THE AIRPORT STILL SAY PBI. So, let’s explain how this all happened. IT STARTED IN NOVEMBER WHEN STATE REPRESENTATIVE MEG WEINBERGER OF PALM BEACH GARDENS FILED A BILL TO CHANGE THE NAME. IN FEBRUARY, THE FLORIDA HOUSE AND SENATE VOTED ALONG PARTY LINES TO APPROVE THE NAME CHANGE. THEN IN MARCH, GOVERNOR DESANTIS SIGNED A BILL THAT RENAMED THE AIRPORT AFTER THE PRESIDENT, AND IN MAY, PALM BEACH COUNTY COMMISSIONERS VOTED 4-3 ON A BRANDING DEAL WITH THE PRESIDENT’S BUSINESSES TO USE THE NAME. THE AGREEMENT, INCLUDING THE NEW AIRPORT LOGO. WE ALSO TALK ABOUT ROAD SIGNS AND UNIFORMS. THEY ARE MORE FOCUSED ON THEIR FLIGHT AND CONTINUE TO HAVE AN EFFICIENT TRAVEL EXPERIENCE THAN WHAT THE AIRPORT IS CALLED. ALTHOUGH THE FAA NAME CHANGE IS NOW IN EFFECT, THE COST, AS YOU SAID, THE COMPLETE TRANSITION WILL TAKE SEVERAL MORE WEEKS. AIRPORT OFFICIALS say flights, tickets, bag tags and reservations are not affected because the airport continues to be managed by the county. THE AIRPORT CODE ALSO REMAINS PBI FOR NOW UNTIL AUGUST 18, WHEN IT IS EXPECTED TO CHANGE TO DJT. I’m pretty happy with it. I think it’s an honor to be voted in honor of the president in this way. NOW THE COUNTY COMMISSION AND PALM BEACH COUNTY COMMISSIONERS HAVE BEEN REASSURED THAT THIS MONEY WILL NOT COME FROM THE COUNTY, AND RATHER FROM AIRPORT REVENUE. And then we saw last week, when Gov. Ron Desantis signed the state budget, it included $2.75 million for the airport name change. SO THIS MONEY COMES FROM THE STATE, AS CALEB MENTIONED, THE AIRPORT CODE WILL REMAIN PBI UNTIL AUGUST 18. This is when it changes to DJT, Stephen and Tiffany, as we’ve seen all morning, you may still see signs for P, B, I or Palm Beach International Airport as this is a phased release. SOME OF THESE SIGNS WILL NOT BE CHANGED FOR THE COMING WEEKS
