Jokowi diploma certified
The defendant in the alleged defamation and slander case, Tifauzia Tyassuma alias Doctor Tifa, is facing a follow-up trial at the East Jakarta District Court with the aim of reading the exception.
During the trial, Doctor Tifa’s legal team emphasized that their client never wanted the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), to be convicted.
Doctor Tifa’s lawyer, Wirawan Adnan, believes that there is an error in the interpretation of this case. He said there was a dichotomy between the demands of Jokowi’s supporters and his party’s attitude.
“On the one hand, Mr. Joko Widodo’s supporters often loudly demand that the accused be given a harsh punishment. However, on the other hand, we must point this out honestly and openly in this sacred space. The accused and his supporters have never once demanded that Mr. Joko Widodo be punished,” Wirawan said while reading the exception during the trial, Wednesday (9/7/2026).
Complaints only regarding proof of diploma
Wirawan said his client’s request was very simple and constitutional. What he was asking for, he said, was only that the validity of Jokowi’s diploma be tested openly before the law.
“Our desires are very simple, very measurable and very constitutional. We only require one thing so that the validity of a diploma can be clearly proven before the law and the courts,” he explained.
According to Wirawan, the course of the trial actually moved away from the original problem. He found that the trial focused more on the elements of defamation and slander than on the merits that triggered the case.
“We are not invited to test the material veracity of the diploma under debate, but rather we are stuck in a maze of formal interpretations regarding the articles on ‘libel’ and ‘slander’. This trial seems designed to skip the bottom and jump to conclusions,” he continued.
Questioning the basis of the sanction without judicial review
Wirawan also questioned how someone could be punished for defamation if the matter in question had never been proven in court.
“How can someone be punished for slander or defamation against an object, if the object itself, namely the truth or falsity of the diploma, has never been exposed, opened and proven transparently in a court of law?” he said.

Previously, Doctor Tifa arrived at the East Jakarta District Court before the special hearing. He said his party had prepared a 37-page objection note.
