The head of the NHS testing program has admitted that a sharp rise in demand was a surprise – BBC News

The head of the NHS testing and tracing program in England has admitted that he did not expect a huge increase in the demand for tests since schools backed down. In a tough poll by MPs, Dido Harding said there had been a significant increase in the number of children and teenagers attending the tests, which is 3 or 4 times higher than the daily capacity. In the meantime, care homes in England will receive more than half a billion pounds in extra government funding to help fight the coronavirus in the winter. The money will help workers pay full wages when they isolate themselves, reduce the use of public transportation and ensure that workers work in a single care home.
