Luka Doncic returns, but Mavericks at the end of the rally against Bulls fail to achieve an unthinkable loss

CHICAGO's stakes on Mondays, although against a bad Bulls team, couldn't have been clearer or, apparently, easier for the Mavericks.

The Mavericks were fortunate enough to climb 14 games above .500 for the first time this season, but instead slipped to 37-25 and finished 2-2 on that trip, losing to Miami and Chicago and defeating the Spurs and the Timberwolves.

Absences from Porzingis and Curry meant that Dallas was without these players combining 28.6 points, 11.8 rebounds and 4.8 3 points per game – but the Bulls were without top scorer Zach LaVines 25.5 points per game.

Even when they have LaVine, the Bulls (20-41) are not good, as evidenced by their 10 losses in 11 games entered on Monday. That made it as much a necessary win for Dallas as it was Sunday's win over a Wolves team that has lost 19 of its last 21 games.
