Another new study in Nature Microbiology examined the antibody response of 65 people with COVID-19.
Researchers found that more than 95% of patients developed an antibody response eight days after the onset of symptoms, but the amount of neutralizing antibody produced was highest in patients with the most severe symptoms.
People who produced the highest levels of antibodies continued to produce antibodies for more than two months after the initial infection. However, for those who initially produced low antibodies, it became undetectable within a month and a half.
There is a general consensus that the antibody response to COVID-19 is not permanent, but it is not entirely clear how long it will be protected. In fact, a study just published Wednesday afternoon in Science showed stable antibody levels for five months. The difference may have been in the particular antibody researcher studied.
Due to the different techniques tested, different vaccines can produce different responses depending on who produces the antibody and how it is produced. Some have long-term benefits, while others require a booster.
