Yellowstone National Park is one of the most seismic areas in the United States. Last year, the U.S. Geological Survey recorded 1,718 total tremors in Yellowstone. While the seismic activity may appear significant, it is fairly low.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the average amount of earthquakes in Yellowstone in a year is between 1,500 and 2,500.

According to an estimate by the USGS, last year’s total was actually at the lower end of the average scale.

So, while 2020 has been a bad year, we can all breathe a sigh of relief at the fact that Yellowstone looks quiet.

The US Geological Survey said: “Overall, earthquakes in the Yellowstone region during 2020 were clearly normal.

“There were 1,718 earthquakes located in the area, which lies on the low side of an average of 1,500 to 2,500 events per year.

In fact, 2020 was the third consecutive year that there were fewer than 2,000 earthquakes.

“The largest earthquake of the year was the three-way tie, with M3.1 events in March, May and November, all in the area between the Norris Geyser Basin in Yellowstone National Park and Lake Hepgin in Montana.

Since Yellowstone is so full of magma, a volcanic eruption will eject all of this, leaving the area below it hollow.

This could cause the Earth to collapse in on itself and create another caldera – a depression near the mouth of the volcano.

However, with so much ejection of ash and debris, the consequences can be felt all over the world.

Debris and ash will make their way into the atmosphere, slowly spinning the entire globe.

This will block the sunlight, causing temperatures to drop in what is known as volcanic winter.

Ultimately, this will lead to food shortages around the world as crops will struggle to grow in the new climate that could actually last for decades.
