FEMA to support a planned 6-day Delaware vaccination event
Dover, Delaware (AP) — Delaware authorities have partnered with the Federal Emergency Management Agency to open a drive-through COVID-19 vaccination site for six days starting Saturday.
Officials said FEMA will provide resources, staffing and operational support at the Dover International Speedway vaccination site.
State officials have called for federal support to establish a vaccination site that will provide a second vaccination to up to 3,000 Delaware people a day for six days.
Reservations for the second vaccination are only available to those who received the first vaccination at one of the four state-owned mass vaccination events last month.
Reservations are required for the FEMA Vaccination Clinic and will be accepted from 11:00 am on Wednesday.
Upon arrival at the site, you will need to confirm your reservation and submit a vaccination card with proof of your first COVID-19 vaccination.
Public health officials will first schedule the first five days, from February 20th to 24th, with the sixth day open as needed.
A spokeswoman for the Public Health Service said the state has reserved doses specifically for FEMA events so that supplies are available. The Delaware vaccine website showed that as of Tuesday afternoon, there were approximately 7,500 doses left. Authorities said about 16,000 of the approximately 30,000 doses assigned to Delaware this week will be distributed for the first dose.
As of Tuesday, authorities reported 79,071 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 1,291 COVID-related deaths in Delaware. More than half of the reported deaths are related to long-term care resident, but long-term care resident accounts for less than 3% of COVID-19 cases.
