TOKYO – There were 208 aftershocks from the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake of 4 magnitude or higher last year – 1.5 times the average of the 10 years preceding the earthquake – the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) announced on March 8.

Naoshi Hirata, chair of the National Government’s Seismological Research Committee and Professor Emeritus at the University of Tokyo, held a meeting on March 9 regarding the data.
