Petco Park vaccination site closes to make way for Padres opening day

SAN DIEGO – San Diego’s largest super vaccination site has closed for good.
The closure of the Petco Park super vaccination site, which has supplied the San Diegans with more than 200,000 Moderna vaccines, is in preparation for Padres’ opening day, officials said.
Governor Gavin Newsom praised the Petco Park site as a model for other mass vaccination centers across the state and nation. UC San Diego Health and the Padres have partnered with the city and county to launch the first such super immunization post on January 11.
UC San Diego Health said staff were doing everything possible to accommodate the second doses before the site closed on Saturday. Anyone needing a second dose is encouraged to check appointments on the RIMAC vaccination site or the county website. Vaccinefinder.gov was another suggested resource for finding doses in drugstores.
After Petco Park closed for appointments, dozens of San Diegans waited outside for a chance to get the walk-in shot.

About 100 or more people were fortunate enough to get a vaccine from the additional dose sites before it was closed permanently.
