New York subway trains must be disinfected every 72 hours to prevent the spread of coronavirus
The Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) said on Tuesday that it would begin to do deep cleanups of New York subway trains and buses every three days to prevent the coronavirus from spreading in the city .
Transportation Workers Union President Tony Utano said NBC New York Affiliate that metro turnstiles, station handrails, MetroCard cards and ATMs would be cleaned daily by MTA employees.
In total, the enhanced sanitation measures include 472 metro stations, 21 stations of Staten Island Railway, 124Long Island Railroadstations and terminals and more than 100 Metro-North stations, according to the agency.

The measures came after New York government Andrew Cuomo (D) said on Sunday that increased cleaning precautions would be put in place.
Cuomo made the announcement after discovering that a 39-year-old Manhattan woman tested positive for the virus after returning from Iran, which has been hit hard by an epidemic of the virus. It was the first confirmed case of the virus in New York, a city that is home to nearly 9 million people.
Cuomo said the woman was quarantined at her home.
