Army vet Elvis Presley to get his own 24-hour streaming channel
In a move that will certainly help ensure that younger generations learn to appreciate the king of rock n roll, Elvis Presley Enterprises announced the launch of a new ad-supported Elvis Presley channel in early 2022.
The ad includes Pluto, Roku, and Tubi, so it’s likely that the programming will be shown on these services, a great (and free) selection of individual cable-like channels. Samsung, Hulu, and Amazon are also mentioned, so there will likely be a video-on-demand option as well.
EPE has partnered with Cinedigm, the distributor behind a calming channel from Air Force veteran Bob Ross. Ross’s The Joy of Painting show found new life as it airs to 6 million monthly viewers on 20 platforms, including Samsung TVs, Roku, Peacock, Pluto TV and Tubi devices. Now they aim to do the same for Elvis.
Next year should be a big year for Presley fans. Director Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge!) Will release a new biopic of the singer with Austin Butler (Tex Watson in Once Upon a Time … In Hollywood) as Elvis and Tom Hanks (Greyhound) as manager of the Presleys, Colonel Tom Parker, who was not a real military colonel. The channel plans to be operational long before the films are released.
It’s unclear whether the channel will have access to Kings’ vast catalog of Hollywood films, but they promise exclusive footage from the Graceland Archives and access to classic specials and documentaries like Singer Presents Elvis (the 68 Comeback Special), Elvis Aloha from Hawaii via satellite and Elvis via the Presleys.
The channel also plans to showcase other musicians of the Presley Generation on the Memphis stage, making it a promising lineup featuring other Sun Records artists such as Roy Orbison and the Air veteran. Johnny Cash Force.
Of course, the big question here is why this obvious decision has taken so long. Still, it’s good to know that Elvis will be joining classics like Bob Ross, Cops, The Beverly Hillbillies, The Love Boat, Dark Shadows, Happy Days, The Price Is Right, and Baywatch with his own 24/7 channel.
