Bollywood singers Jaan Nissar Lone and Rani Hazarika win top KL Saigal award
Mumbai-based Kashmiri Bollywood music director Jaan Nissar Lone and prominent Assamese Bollywood singer and musician Rani Hazarika received the first Late Kundan Lal (KL) Saigal Award.
Famous singer Jaan Nissar Lone, music director of Mumbai-based Kashmiri Bollywood, and prominent Assamese Bollywood singer and musician Rani Hazarika on Wednesday received the first Late Kundan Lal (KL) Saigal award from former Minister of Union and senior Congress official Shushilkumar Shinde.
In a press release, Jammu and Kashmir International Film Festival (JAIKIFF) director Mushtaque Ali Khan said the award was instituted by the Pune-based NGO Sarhad, which also jointly organized the film festival with the Arham Foundation. The prize consists of a citation and a shield.
Anand Agarwal, Editor-in-Chief, Aaj ka Anand, Social Activist Sant Singh Mokha, Ashok Kaul, Director, Film Producer Nilesh Navalakha, Rajeev Jalnapurkar, CEO, Ramoji Film City, Famous Popular Artist Sambhaji Bhagat, Sanjay Nahar, Founding Chairman, Sarhad, Dr. Shailesh Pagaria was also present.
The festival committee has decided to award this prize to eminent personalities from the world of cinema and music. The first prize was awarded to the Bollywood singing couple Lone and Hazarika in memory of the great actor.
Saigal was the first superstar and great singer of Hindi cinema. His contribution to Indian cinema has been remarkable in the fave of adverse conditions. JAIKIFF was inaugurated by Apni Party Chairman Syed Altaf Bukhari and former Union Minister MP Prakash Javadekar. ICCR Chairman MP Vinay Sahasrabuddhe was also among the dignitaries.
Jaan Nissar Lone is a guitarist, pianist and singer. Among the successful films, he composed music such as Half Widow, Pranaam, 18.11 JD and Shudra the Rising. Lone is rooted in the ethnic culture of Kashmir and loves to promote it. This is evident in popular songs sung by him such as Salam-e-Wazwan and Maenziraat, written by Peer Zahoor. Maenziraat is the valley’s first original dance act. Salam-e-Wazwan is an ode to Kashmiri Wazwan cuisine.
Lone did his postgraduate studies at Trinity College London in Western music. He is trained in Indian classical music and belongs to the Patiala Gharana.
Rani Hazarika was born into a music-loving family in Assam. His father Rose Hazarika was also a singer and was an artist in the Information Broadcasting Songs and Drama division. Rani is a music graduate. She has sung over 1000 songs in different languages including Kashmiri and Assamese. She sang a Punjabi folk song in Bobby Deol-starring EK’s The Power of One. She also sang for Nagarjuna’s Telugu film, Yeh Kaisa Karz (Boss). She was a finalist in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Singing Superstar (2010).
She sang a song in Welcome Back composed by Meet Bros. Her song Dil Hi Toh Hai for the famous TV series became an instant hit.
