The iconic film Forrest Gump is getting a remake, and it’s a Bollywood actor trying his luck on the project.
Based on the 1994 film, Laal Singh Chaddha follows a Sikh man playing the famous Tom Hanks character. The idea started circulating in 2008, when Atul Kulkarni pitched a Hindi version of the film to Aamir Khan, one of Bollywood’s biggest names.
After that, Khan and Viacom18 Studio began the decade-long process of acquiring the rights to the film. After 14 years of patience and perseverance, Laal Singh Chaddha finally graces the big screen on August 11, according to Free press journal.
The film is mostly inspired by the original, Forrest Gump. However, we have made some changes to suit the sensitivities of Indian audiences. The Hollywood movie had some adult scenes, we didn’t take those in our movie. We want people to watch our film with their whole family, Khan, who is tied like a producer and as a lead actor, said in an interview with Koimoia Bollywood entertainment news site.
Directed by Advait Chandan, this remake has a star-studded cast, with Kareena Kapoor Khan as Rupa Kaur, Laal Singh’s love interest, and Mona Singh, playing her mother.
Even without the adult scenes, the film is still almost 22 more minutes than the original, in typical Bollywood fashion.
Forrest Gump followed the life story of an Alabama man with an IQ of 75 as he experiences the Vietnam War, the Watergate scandal and other historical events while dreaming of finding his first love, according to IMDb.
