A Brookhaven resident is among the top five winners of the Mississippi Lottery Powerball First Millionaire of the Year promotion.

A Mississippi lottery insider was randomly selected on Monday to win an all-expenses-paid trip to New York and a chance to become the first Powerball millionaire of the year.

The promotion ran from September 1-30 and featured a grand prize consisting of an all-expenses-paid trip to New York City for two, three nights at a Times Square hotel, a welcome dinner, exclusive entertainment, dinner and New Year’s Eve entertainment, $1,000 cash, two goodie bags and transportation to New York City, plus eligibility for the $1 million draw during the Dick Clarks New Live Stream Years Rockin Eve.

The lottery also randomly selected four other winners to each receive a cash prize of $10,000, $5,000, $2,500 or $1,000. These winners came from Laurel, McComb, Brookhaven and Brandon.

Anyone who registered early had the chance to win three early bird draws. Three Mississippians from Sardis, Centerville and Blue Mountain each won $1,000.
