Tamil TV actor Lokesh Rajendran committed suicide

Tamil TV actor Lokesh Rajendran (34), who is best known for his work as a child artist in the popular TV series Marmadesam, took his own life on Tuesday.

The character of Lokesh Raasu in Vidathu Karuppu, one of the five parts of the mystery anthology Marmadesam, is forever etched in the memory of all fans of Tamil TV serials. The episode aired in 1996.

According to Lokesh’s father, his son has done more than 150 soap operas and 15 movies with top Tamil actors like Vijayakanth, Prabhu and others. He said Lokesh was married and is survived by two children.

A month ago I learned that there was a misunderstanding between them (Lokesh and his wife). A legal notice of divorce came from his wife four days ago. He was depressed. I last saw him (Lokesh) on Friday, he said he needed the money and I gave it to him. He had told us that he would start working as an editor, he said.

According to police, Lokesh was an alcoholic due to family issues and was frequently seen sleeping at the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminal (CMBT).

On Monday, passers-by at the bus terminal noticed that he was uncomfortable. Some of them dialed 108 for an ambulance and also alerted the police. He was taken to Government Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital. He died Tuesday evening, an official said. The police registered a case under article 174 of the CrPC.

Note that the entire cast and team of Vidathu Karuppu had recently met to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their television series.
