Investigation into Universal Studios Hollywood trolley crash continues

Fifteen people were injured after a tram crashed on the Universal Studios lot, although most of the injuries are believed to be minor.

ANGELS – The investigation continues Monday into a streetcar crash at Universal Studios Hollywood over the weekend that left more than a dozen people injured.

The crash was reported Saturday around 9 p.m. in the 3900 block of Lankershim Boulevard. According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, 15 people were transported to local hospitals for treatment of minor injuries. No one was seriously injured.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but the California Highway Patrol reports that it happened when one of the streetcar cars struck a guardrail while attempting to turn, causing the tilting of the vehicle and “the ejection of several passengers from the tram”.

According to the CHP, the investigation into the crash was still ongoing, but drugs and alcohol do not appear to have played a role, City News Service reports.

Trams operate within the theme park but take an alternate route.

“We are working to support our guests and understand the circumstances that led to the accident,” a Universal Studios Hollywood spokesperson said.

The Universal Studios Trolley Tour is one of the most popular attractions at the Universal City theme park. It offers a one-hour behind-the-scenes tour of the backlot where some of Hollywood's most famous TV shows, movies and other productions were filmed.
