Missing 'Taarak Mehta' actor returns home

The actor's sudden demise along with reports that he was facing financial problems made headlines.

'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah ChashmaActor Gurucharan Singh, who had been missing for over 25 days, returned home on Friday, police said. The 50-year-old actor's family had filed a missing complaint after he left his home in Delhi on April 22, but never reached Mumbai.

Mr Singh, who played the role of Roshan Singh Sodhi in the popular TV show, was questioned after returning home. He told police he “left worldly life” to begin a “religious journey.” During this pilgrimage, he said, he traveled to several cities and lived in gurudwaras in Amritsar and Ludhiana.

However, after almost a month, he felt he needed to end the pilgrimage and return home, so he returned, Mr Singh told police.

The actor's sudden disappearance and reports that he was facing financial problems made headlines last month. Sources also revealed that he is getting married soon.

Mr Singh was last seen on a CCTV camera in Palam, a few kilometers from his home, on April 24. The actor was seen crossing a road with a backpack in the footage. Shortly after, his phone was turned off and he could not be found.

Before disappearing, Mr. Singh had withdrawn around $7,000 from an ATM in Delhi. “His flight was scheduled for Monday at 8:30 p.m., but he was seen at an intersection in Palam around 9:14 p.m.,” authorities said.

The police had registered a case of kidnapping based on his father's complaint and formed several teams to trace the actor.
