Actor Chris Meloni Says CT Has the Best Gin of Any State in New Commercial for Roxbury Craft Distillery
The new owner of Roxbury-based Mine Hill Distillery has teamed up with a high-profile actor to spotlight the craft spirits maker in an ad, as he positions the company for growth.
Zachary Karabel, an author and historian, along with a group of investors, purchased Mine Hill from its founder, Elliott Davis, in 2023. At the time, the small-batch distillery was on the verge of closing.
But Karabel, who has run investment companies, has a Ph.D. from Harvard University, co-owner of the Shakespeare & Co. bookstore in New York and appearing as a commentator on national television networks, had the means to save him.
Today, its distillery attracts national exposure, located in an 1860 cigar factory nestled along the Shepaug River in the Mine Hill Wooded Preserve.
Karabel tapped actor Chris Meloni, best known for his role as a police detective on Law & Order, to star in a Mine Hill commercial.
The campaign highlights (Mine Hills)'s national expansion and the brand's commitment to gin and bourbon excellence, according to an announcement from the distillery.
Mine Hill's spirits are made using grains from the Thrall family farm in Windsor and local spring water, combined with meticulous attention to detail.
It's the best gin in the state; “It’s the best gin in any state, and it’s what you should drink, if you can get it,” Meloni told viewers.
Established in 2018, the distillery now produces amaro, gin, bourbon, rye and vodka.
Karabell calls the spirits a unique blend of old Connecticut and new.
Mine Hill donates its spent grain to feed area livestock, the announcement states.
