Veteran actor Talat Hussain passed away in Karachi after a prolonged illness, Karachi Arts Council Chairman Ahmed Shah confirmed on Sunday.

Shah shared that he was informed about the actor's death by his daughter Tazeen Hussain.

Hussain, known for his prolific career in radio, television and films, was battling a prolonged illness and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

Born in September 1940 in Delhi, India, the famous comedian was married to Professor Rakhshanda Hussain and the father of three daughters and a son.

Hussain, studied at the London Academy of Music and Drama and was awarded the Sitara-e-Imtiaz (Star of Excellence) in 2021 and the Pride of Performance Award in 1982 by the Government of Pakistan.

He also received the Amanda Award in 2006 for Best Supporting Actor in a Norwegian film “Import Eksport” and the Nigar Award in 1986 for Best Supporting Actor in the film “Miss Bangkok”.

Hussain has left an indelible mark in the Pakistani showbiz industry, from delightful dramas to insightful writings.

He had a decades-long career in acting, singing and the arts. He also worked for a while for the BBC in London.

He worked in many dramas including 'Arjumand' in 1970 on PTV, 'Ansoo', 'Bandish', 'Des Pardes', 'Tariq Bin Ziad', 'Eid ka Jora', 'Fanooni Latifey' and Hawain'.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed grief over the demise of the veteran actor and offered condolences to his family.

The Prime Minister said Hussain was a legendary actor whose dialogue delivery was impeccable. “He made a place for himself in the hearts of theater and cinema lovers thanks to his acting.”

Prime Minister Shehbaz said Hussain's services to television, theater and radio will always be remembered, adding that the void created by his death will never be filled.

Acting President Yousuf Raza Gilani said Hussain's invaluable services to the arts will always be remembered.

Actor Bushra Ansari took to Instagram to offer his condolences. “What a loss,” she wrote in her message.

Actor Adnan Siddiqui, speaking to X, said, “The passing away of Talat Hussain sahib is like a personal loss. He was there not as a co-actor but as a guiding force when I did my very first play, Khwabon Ki Zanjir. the big ones are gone.”
