“I was pushed into a corner”
Mira Rajput, the entrepreneur actor's wife Shahid Kapoor was harshly criticized when she made a seemingly derogatory comment about working mothers in 2017. Mira said her daughter was not a “puppy” and questioned why women would want to have children if they couldn't spend time with them. . In a conversation with Film Companion, Mira said that at the time she felt like she was being “pushed into a corner” as people questioned why an educated woman like her chose to become a stay-at-home mom and had taken a “conventional, conservative approach” in her life. Mira found this line of thinking “unfair” and said that at the time she wanted to give time to her children.
“Even though I was pushed into this corner because I seemed very regressive, I think I probably acted out by saying things…I don't think I agree with them at the moment. I think I've come a long way since that,” she said. Mira admitted that her comments weren't well-received for a reason and said: “I can understand why it didn't not taken well. I think I was in a vulnerable and emotional space I think I was just trying to defend myself by asserting that my choices are also valid. she had done and that “a lot of people were hurt by it”.

Mira was 20 when she got married to Shahid Kapoor and landed in the limelight. While her first interview on Koffee with Karan was well received, her next appearance, where she made a remark about working mothers, landed her in trouble. Looking back, Mira said it was a “turning point” that “shook” her. She shared that she still receives hate for these comments. She said that when the controversy first broke out, she received a lot of support from Shahid as he had already been working with the media for 14 years. “I think it’s time to be forgiven for that because life comes full circle and you make mistakes and you learn from them,” she said.
In 2017, Mira said at a Women's Day event: “You know, I can raise my daughter, I can be a good wife, I can arrange my house the way I like it , not in terms of how things should be but how a house should be with its values and ideals. So nothing will stop me after this but I love being at home, I love being a mother to my child, I wouldn't have it any other way.
