Nia Sharma: TRPs have declined sharply and this is not a good sign for television

New Delhi – Actress Nia Sharma admits that the small screen has been worst hit by the digital boom. She said that Target Rating Points (TRP) have fallen by leaps and bounds, which is not a good sign for television.

With a growing love for the digital space, the small screen is paying the price, doesn't she agree?

Of course I agree, TRPs are the main factor that determines the fate of television today and no show literally works. The TRPs have gone down considerably by leaps and bounds and this is not a good sign for television, Nia told IANS.

I am sure the creators and producers are doing their best to make the audience reciprocate their affection, she added.

Nia is currently playing the role of a witch in a supernatural series, a genre which is not new to her as she has previously worked in the series Naagin.

What draws you to the supernatural genre is Pat's response: It's not up to me to choose my work. It so happened that after four years I came across a fantastic thriller again. It wasn't a conscious choice that I immediately said yes to a series like this, but as I moved forward and got to know the character more, I realized that it was a tailor-made role for me.

More than me, the creators wanted me to do it. They showed me their immense trust. It was respectful.

The actress took a break from the small screen for a few years before saying yes to Suhagan Chudail, which aired on Colors.

I am proud to tell everyone that I have done enough work on television. Everything that has happened in the last three years was really not my cup of tea and I really did not see myself associating myself with those shows.

She revealed the reason why she chose to stay away from the small screen, despite the big job that was offered to her.

Nia said: It's not that I wasn't doing a lot of shows, yes, but I wasn't really interested in it and I didn't want to get into it. I wanted to experiment more with web shows and few were on the radar, but they didn't take off.

This process took three years and I also stayed away from the fiction genre, but this series, like the creators, said it was made for me.

When Chunky Panday Was a Part-Time Car Dealer: 'It Wasn't Easy, But It Was Fun'

Mumbai– Actor Chunky Panday has reminisced about his tough days in Bollywood, recalling how he had to queue up outside producers' offices. He also revealed that he was a part-time car dealer then.

Chunky, who plays the role of Rakesh Raman in the recently released slice-of-life drama series Industry, shared, “My struggling days were very different, there were no casting directors or digital media, so we had to stand in long queues outside the producers’ offices to meet them and show them photo albums, we also had to dance in front of them and act out scenes from popular films.

“It wasn't easy, but it was fun. It was my most difficult period. I was both a hustler and a part-time car dealer, so I had the opportunity to drive these cars. Every day I was in a different car, going to the producers' offices,” said Chunky, who started his acting career with the hit film Aag Hi Aag (1987).

Chunky also shared his experience of working with his fellow actors in 'Industry': “It was a pleasure working with this new generation of actors. I now understand that less is more – their performances are so nuanced and organic. I believe working with them has motivated me to evolve. I have gained a lot of knowledge from this experience. I look forward to many, many seasons of Industry.”

Produced by The Viral Fever (TVF), the series revolves around the life of Aayush Verma (Gagan Arora), a young and ambitious screenwriter, as he tries to make a place for himself in an ever-changing film industry.

It also stars Guneet Monga, Ankita Goraya, Kunal Kapoor, Abhishek Banerjee, Amit Masurkar, Suparn Verma, Sunit Roy, Sumit Arora and Prosit Roy in pivotal roles.

“Industry” is broadcast on Amazon miniTV.

On the professional front, Chunky was last seen in the 2022 sports action film 'Liger – Saala Crossbreed', starring Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday in the lead role.
