Women’s Resource Group and Health Professions College raise $750 for Dress for Success

The recent Pearls, Pumps, and Purses Charity Mixer and Fashion Show sponsored by the UTHSC Women’s Resource Group and co-hosted by the College of Health Professions raised $750 for Dress For Success Memphis.
The UTHSC Women’s Resource Group recently raised $750 and collected several hundred items of clothing for the Memphis chapter of Dress for success a charity mixer and a fashion show. Co-facilitated by College of Health Professions (CoHP), the event brought together several CoHP faculty and staff, as well as members of other colleges and departments.
Dress for Success-Memphis has a mission so powerful that we can all support it, said Vice Chancellor of Human Resources Chandra Alston, EdD, SPHR, SHRM-SCP. They seek to empower women to become economically independent through network support, professional attire and development tools. Helping women thrive at work and in life is fundamental to the work they do. The Womens Resource Group has partnered with our COHP staff and students to demonstrate our financial and physical support for women’s empowerment work in our beautiful city. The best thing about this event was seeing all the beautiful women modeling, mingling and having a great time together with a purpose.
In addition to the fashion show, guests also enjoyed a buffet, while chatting and learning more about the work of Dress for Success Memphis, which has served more than 14,000 women in the Memphis metro area since its beginning in 1999. .
Next week, incoming CoHP students will volunteer at Dress for Success Memphis to help inventory donated clothing items, as part of their Orientation Week Service Project.
