Prime Minister Modi and President Kovind express sorrow as death toll reaches 11 in intensive care hospital fire in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed sorrow at the death of 10, now 11, due to a fire at the Ahmednagar Civil Hospital in Maharashtra.
Prime Minister Modi tweeted: “Anguished at the loss of life due to a fire in a hospital in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. Condolences to the bereaved families. Let the injured recover as soon as possible.
Besides Prime Minister Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind also offered his condolences for the fire.

Ahmednagar District Collector Rajendra Bhosale said a total of 10 people died in a fire at the Ahmednagar Civil Hospital. There were 17 patients admitted to the Covid-19 intensive care center at Ahmednagar Civil Hospital when the fire started around 10:30 a.m. in the building due to a short circuit, the official said.
“The hospital fire audit was carried out right after the Nashik hospital fire. But now, based on several complaints from relatives, a fire officer has been assigned to investigate.” , he added.
Following the incident, CM Uddhav Thackeray also spoke with District Guard Minister Hasan Mushrif and Chief Secretary Sitaram Kunte and called on them to ensure that the victims have no problem in obtaining a processing.
