3,024 apartments in Delhis Kalkaji to be inaugurated soon by Prime Minister Narendra Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate 3,024 new apartments for the Economically Weakest Sections (EWS) in Kalkaji, South Delhi on Wednesday, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement on Tuesday.
The prime minister would hand over the keys to some of the beneficiaries of the in situ slum upgrading project at an event in Vigyan Bhawan, the PMO said.
In line with the Prime Minister’s vision of providing housing for all, in situ slum upgrading in 376 clusters of jhuggi jhopri is being undertaken by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA). The aim of the rehabilitation project is to provide a better and healthier living environment for residents of JJ clusters, with appropriate amenities and facilities, the PMO said.
The apartments were built at a cost of Rs 345 crore and are equipped with all civic amenities. Allocation of the apartments will provide people with title to their property as well as a sense of security, the PMO statement said. The apartments have vitrified floor tiles, ceramic tiles and Udaipur green marble countertops in the kitchen, he added.
Apart from the Kalkaji project, the DDA had also undertaken similar projects in Jailorwala Bagh and Kathputli Colony.
In Kalkaji, 3,024 EWS flats had been built in Phase 1 of the project on a vacant site near Bhoomiheen camp, which would be vacated once residents move into the flats. The PMO said phase 2 of the project would be launched at the Bhoomiheen camp site after its liberation. This, he said, would be used to rehabilitate residents of Navjeevan and Jawahar camp.
