Narendra Modi to be sworn in as PM: From guest list to security arrangements, here's everything you need to know

Caretaker Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take the oath of office and secrecy on Saturday, June 9, at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Along with Narendra Modi, other members of the Union Council of Ministers will also take oath on Sunday. Here are the key security arrangements and other details related to the oath-taking ceremony of Narendra Modi.

Three-tier security at Rashtrapati Bhavan

As part of the security protocol, security officials will provide three-tier security inside and outside Rashtrapati Bhawan, PTI reported. Delhi Police personnel will be deployed outside the ring, followed by paramilitary and internal security personnel from the President's House in the inner ring.

“Around 2,500 police personnel, including five companies of paramilitary jawans and Delhi Armed Police (DAP), are expected to be deployed around the venue,” a PTI police officer quoted him as saying.

Snipers and drones deployed

In addition to three-tier security, snipers and armed police will be deployed on dignitary routes. Drones will be deployed at strategic locations for better surveillance.

No-fly zone in Delhi NCT

Due to the ceremony, police restricted sub-conventional aerial platforms including paragliders, hang gliders, drones, UAS, microlights, etc. The order banning the use of these devices will come into force on June 9 and will remain in force until June 11, Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora said.

Delhi Police said in a tweet on remotely piloted aircraft, hot air balloons, small motorized aircraft, quadcopters or parachute jumps from aircraft etc. within the jurisdiction of NCT of Delhi due to the swearing-in ceremony in the National Capital Territory of Delhi to thwart criminal activities. and anti-social elements or terrorists hostile to India to pose a threat to the security of the general public, dignitaries and vital installations by using them,” the notice said.

Neighborhood first on PM Modi's foreign guest list

According to news agency PTI, senior leaders from neighboring and other countries will attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi's inauguration ceremony.

Top leaders from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bhutan, Nepal, Mauritius and Seychelles are likely to attend the ceremony. Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe and leaders of some other countries have already received an invitation.

Nepalese Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu, Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth and Seychelles President Wavel Ramkalawan are among the leaders invited to Modi's inauguration ceremony, which should take place on June 9.

Special arrangements for foreign dignitaries

Security at hotels where foreign dignitaries traveling to India to attend Narendra Modi's swearing-in ceremony will be staying has been updated with enhanced protocols.

Other leaders and guests expected to join the swearing-in ceremony

Besides foreign leaders, nearly 50 religious leaders of different faiths, other personalities like lawyers, doctors, artists, influencers, etc. were also invited. Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awardees will also be part of the event.
