Previously, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) handed over the El Nino Direct Cash Assistance (BLT) to a number of beneficiaries at the Genteng Post Office, Banyuwangi Regency, East Java, on Wednesday December 27, 2023.
The BLT El Nino was created to increase the purchasing power of citizens due to the increase in prices of a number of basic necessities.
“BLT El Nino was used because there was an increase in commodities, rice increased slightly, that was used to cover that,” the President explained to the beneficiaries.

Besides the BLT El Nino worth IDR 400,000 which was distributed to the community, President Jokowi said the government is also distributing food aid from government rice reserves totaling 10 kilograms starting from September 2023.
“Later in January, February, March (2024), the 10 kilos will be continued again,” he added.
Sumiatun, one of the beneficiaries, is grateful for the assistance provided by the government to meet her basic needs. He hopes that similar assistance can be continued to increase the purchasing power of the population.
