Conservative donations exceed 570,000 during first week of election campaign, compared to 5.7 million in 2019

The Conservatives collected just 10% of the donations they managed to collect in 2019 under Boris Johnson in the first week of the election campaign.
Electoral Commission data released today shows the Conservatives raised 574,918 million between May 30 and June 5, compared to the 5.7 million they received from November 6 to 12 five years ago.
Figures show that political parties declared 3.2 million donations during the first week of the election campaign.
Mr Sunak's party raised 574,918 euros from donations alone, in addition to 22,453 from public funds.
Meanwhile, Labor generated $926,908 from donations alone and $652,411 from public funds given to opposition parties with more than two MPs.
They show a complete turnaround in Labor's fortunes compared to the 2019 election, when the party polled just 218,500 in the first week of that campaign.
This time, the largest donation to the Labor Party was $500,000 from the film company Toledo Productions.
