(Web Desk) – Zain Qureshi, the son of former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, on Monday expressed optimism over his father's release from prison after Eidul Azha.

“I hope he will be released from prison after Eid,” Zain, who is celebrating his second Eid without his father, told reporters in Multan after Eid prayers.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi was arrested in August last year in the Cipher case. Although he was released on bail months later, he was subsequently rearrested.

Qureshi and Imran Khan were acquitted in the Cipher case on June 3 by the Islamabad High Court, setting aside their earlier convictions passed by the trial court.

However, the two PTI leaders remain incarcerated in Adiala jail due to ongoing legal proceedings in several other cases related to the Azadi march and the May 9 riots.

Zain Qureshi, who is PTI's deputy parliamentary leader in the National Assembly, reiterated PTI's call for an investigation into the February 8 general elections and the events of May 9, saying: “We demand the release of our detained workers”.

Zain also dismissed rumors of internal party conflicts, saying, “There are no differences among PTI leaders.”

The Cipher affair revolves around a diplomatic cable which, according to Pakistan's Federal Investigation Agency, was never returned by Imran Khan. The PTI claimed that the document contained a threat by the United States to remove the former PTI chief from his post as Prime Minister of Pakistan.
