PTI parliamentarians march to demand IK's release – Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) parliamentarians, led by party president Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, marched from Parliament to the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday, demanding immediate release from prison of the founding president of the Imran Khan party.

The PTI MPs and senators held placards inscribed with the slogans of liberation of Imran Khan, no to fascism, etc.

The march took place as the apex court was hearing a petition filed by the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), challenging the denial of reserved seats in Parliament to the PTI-backed SIC.

The lawmakers also chanted slogans against the ECP, accusing Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikander Sultan Raja, a retired bureaucrat-turned-CEC, of ​​acting like a B-team of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz ( PML-N) in power.

They said the future of the country is linked to the release of Imran Khan, who, they insisted, faces jail in false and politically motivated cases.

The MPs also chanted anti-government slogans, saying those who stole the mandate from the masses have no right to rule the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Barrister Khan said the party would continue its legal and constitutional fight against the mafias who have crippled the country's economy by stealing the mandate of the people.

He said the people's most popular leader was illegally imprisoned because the mafias were afraid of him, adding that the crooked leaders knew that if Imran Khan came out, they would all be in jail.

They are afraid of Imran Khan because he is the leader who can lead the country out of the current political and economic crises. The people voted for him in the February 8 elections and it was because they knew he was the only leader who only thinks for the country and the masses, he said.

He expressed optimism that Imran Khan will be released soon as all the cases registered against him carry no weight as he is penalized for attacking thieves and mafias.

He called on the higher judiciary to expedite the hearing of concocted and politically motivated cases against the party's founding president Imran Khan, adding that we are optimistic that the courts will do justice to us.
