Dilma Rousseff receives the Friendship Medal from Chinese President Xi Jinping
Former President Dilma Rousseff (PT) received this Sunday 29, the Chinese government's highest distinction granted to foreigners, from the hands of Chinese President Xi Jinping. The ceremony took place in Beijing, in the Great Hall of the People, one of the symbolic buildings of the Asian country's communist regime.
The Medal of Friendship, the official name of the honor, was awarded to the current president of the New Development Bank, better known as the BRICS Bank, during a ceremony celebrating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, which takes place next Tuesday, October 1.

Dilma called the tribute an extraordinary honor and said China's remarkable achievements over the past four decades have made it a beacon of hope and inspiration for the world, while addressing the hundreds of people who occupied the room.
In addition to the Friendship Medal, which symbolizes recognition of those who have contributed to the development of the country, two other types of honors were awarded to 14 other people also honored during the ceremony.
Dilma has been leading the financial institution of the group formed by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa since March last year, after being chosen by Lula to stay in this position until the end of the Brazilian mandate in the bank, in July 2025. The bank's headquarters is in a building in Shanghai, where the former president has resided since he assumed the presidency of the institution.
