DPR Chairman Banggar's Response to Prabowo's Decision to Endorse Jokowi's Choice as Corruption Eradication Committee Candidate

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto approved the names of the candidates for the leadership and supervisory board (Dewas) of the Corruption Eradication Commission or KPK choice of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo or Jokowi. The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) said it appreciated Prabowo's decision.

Said said that President Prabowo sent the letter from the President of the Republic of Indonesia number R60/PRES/11/2024 dated November 4, 2024 regarding the KPK and Dewas KPK leadership candidates for the 2024 term- 2029 of the DPR. Thus, the DPR is obliged to immediately conduct a fit and proper test on the names of the leadership candidates and KPK Dewas.

He pointed out that even though the KPK leaders and Dewas were chosen politically (political person), the DPR will use its authority to select candidates for leadership and the Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) in a professional manner. According to him, the factions in the DPR will involve civil society activists who have paid attention and examined the backgrounds of the KPK leadership candidates and Dewas.

The DPR will open its doors as widely as possible to the broader community, academics and anti-corruption activists to provide important inputs and data so that the DPR can choose the best candidates for leadership and KPK Dewas proposed by the president.

The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) politician reminded that the task accomplished by the KPK leadership and Dewas was very difficult because they needed to increase public trust in the KPK as a law enforcement institution , clean, professional and honest. , impartiality, and was able to place the law as commander in chief.

Another task, he said, is that the Corruption Eradication Commission must be able to strengthen the legal system and influence the President and the DPR to strengthen legislative work to improve the system national legal system, particularly in the eradication of corruption.

He said the Corruption Eradication Commission must be able to lead the work of eradicating corruption with coverage across the region.

“At least focus on eradicating corruption in the natural resources sector, which causes environmental damage and creates large-scale losses for the state,” Said said.

Said said another difficult task facing the KPK leadership and Dewas is to mobilize the KPK as a pioneer of compliance and build, together with the government and society, an anti-corruption culture.

DPR targets KPK candidates and Dewas must be ratified before December 6 holiday

The DPR is targeting KPK leadership candidates and Dewas to be finalized before December 6, 2024. The names sent by President Prabowo to the DPR are the same as those previously proposed by former President Joko Widodo.

“What is certain is that we are on vacation until December 6. We hope that this can be perfected, there is a plenary meeting every Tuesday. “There is still the 19th, there is the 26, there is 5,” Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Adies Kadir said during his meeting at the Senayan Parliament Complex in Central Jakarta on Tuesday.

Adies said the DPR leadership received a letter from President Prabowo. He said the DPR held a consultation meeting to replace the Bamus' meeting with the factions. At the meeting, it was decided that the names of the head and senior leaders of the KPK would be forwarded to Commission III of the House of Representatives for aptitude test.

“So we just have to wait for Commission III before that fit and conformity test I will first consult with DPR leaders on when to start fit and conformity testabout it, how it works technically, and so on,” he said.

What is certain, Adies said, is that the results of the fit and proper test of Commission III of the DPR must be finalized immediately during the session before December 6. The DPR plenary session is usually held on Tuesday or Thursday.

The names of the top 10 KPK leaders are Agus Joko Pramono; Ahmad Alamsyah Saragih; Djoko Poerwanto; Fitroh Rohcahyanto; Ibnu Basuki Widodo; Ida Budhiati; Johanis Tanak; Michael Rolandi Cesnanta Brata; Poengky Indarti; and Setyo Budiyanto.

Meanwhile, the 10 candidate names for KPK Dewas members include Benny Jozua Mamoto; Chisca Mirawati; Elly Fariani; Gusrizal; Hamdi Hassyrbaini; Heru Kreshna Reza; Iskandar Mz; Mirwaiz; Sumpeno; and Vishnu Baroto.
