Latif Khosa reveals why Imran Khan set course for civil disobedience movement
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Latif Khosa on Wednesday revealed that former Prime Minister Imran Khan postponed his civil disobedience movement after receiving advice from key political allies, including Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Akhtar Mengal.
During a media interaction at the Islamabad High Court (IHC), Khosa said the decision to postpone the call for civil disobedience came following consultations with various political figures.
“Imran Khan took this decision after discussions with his political allies who advised him on the way forward,” Khosa said.
Khosa's remarks come amid growing speculation about the party's next steps after months of political turmoil.
The PTI had previously announced plans to launch a nationwide civil disobedience campaign, demanding radical political reforms and the resignation of current government officials.
The senior PTI leader also commented on the changing dynamics within Pakistan's political landscape. “Maulana Fazlur Rehman is a shrewd politician who knows how to have it both ways: taking on the establishment while retaining his influence,” Khosa noted.
“However, the PPP (Pakistan People's Party) recently distanced itself from Fazlur Rehman after President Asif Ali Zardari rejected his proposed constitutional amendments.”
Addressing the ongoing dialogue between the PTI and the government, Khosa dismissed accusations that the party was making a mockery of the government's negotiating position.
“Initially, the government refused to engage in negotiations, but now it is mocking the dialogue process after the PTI formed a discussion committee,” he added.
Khosa also made strong remarks on judicial impartiality, linking recent political decisions to the lack of fairness in the country's legal system.
“Those who sold justice for personal gain will face divine consequences,” he said. “No one can escape justice, not even those who have made biased decisions. »
The PTI leader concluded by expressing concerns over the current state of the country, saying that political instability could not be resolved without political reforms. “Without political stability, economic stability will remain a distant dream.”
Imran suspends call for civil disobedience
The founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has postponed his call for a civil disobedience movement for a while, his sister said on Tuesday, as the government minister put the responsibility of creating an environment conducive to political dialogue.
Aleema Khan spoke to the media after meeting Imran Khan in Adiala jail, saying her brother had warned against asking overseas Pakistanis to suspend remittances if his two demands were not satisfied – a judicial investigation into the May 9, 2023 and November 26, 2024. incidents and the release of party members.
“Overseas Pakistanis are in touch and say they are ready to stop sending money, but PTI members have advised Imran Khan to wait, fearing damage to the country,” he said. she said, adding that Imran was focused on their concerns and was willing to wait a few more days before taking decisive action.
She said Imran was in considerable distress and would not stop until his demands were met. “If these demands are not met, Imran Khan will urge overseas Pakistanis to stop sending remittances to the country,” Allema Khan told media.
Earlier this month, the PTI founder had threatened to launch a civil disobedience movement from December 14 in a message on his handle X. He also announced the creation of a five-member committee to negotiate with the federal government on its two requests.
