The founder and former chief of Pakistan Tehreek-e-insaf (PTI) is currently serving multiple prison sentences in terms of conviction in several cases. Khan has been deposited at Adiala prison in Rawalpindi since mid-2023. The PTI has been in journalization with the federal government since the general elections in February 2024 and demonstrations broke out several times in the country.

In January of this year, Khan was sentenced to 14 years in prison in a case linked to the abusive use of authority and corruption.

Among the multiple cases in which Khan was entangled, three convictions linked to the sale of state gifts, the flight of state secrets and an illegal marriage were canceled or suspended by the courts.
