President Prabowo visits Miangas Island, welcomes outer island residents after ASEAN Summit
Talaud, Miangas, JatimUPdate.id – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto visited Miangas Island, Saturday (9/5/2026), after attending the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, Philippines.
During his visit, Prabowo said he was the second president after Joko Widodo to visit Indonesia’s outermost region.
“We are grateful, I am the second president who went to Miangas, Mr. Jokowi was before,” Prabowo said when meeting with residents of SMK 2 Talaud.
On this occasion, Prabowo highlighted his commitment to accelerate the development of public service facilities, especially in the education and health sectors.
President Prabowo revealed that the government will carry out major renovations in schools and health centers in various regions of Indonesia in the coming years.
According to Prabowo, all Indonesian schools should be renovated in stages over a period of two to three years.
Apart from this, the government will also improve the facilities of community health centers which are considered to have not benefited from improvements for a long time.
The visit to Miangas is also a symbol of the government’s focus on Indonesia’s border areas and more peripheral islands, as well as ensuring that national development extends equally to remote areas.
Previously, President Joko Widodo was reported to have inaugurated Miangas Airport as part of strengthening connectivity and development of border areas in North Sulawesi.
President Prabowo visits health facilities
After landing, President Prabowo immediately inspected the activities at the Miangas Community Health Center, Saturday afternoon (5/9/2026).
During the review, the President discussed with health workers the various health service needs so that people on the outer islands can receive maximum service.
After discussing and recording the various needs for medical staff, the President immediately decided to immediately renovate the Community Health Center which had not been repaired for decades.
Apart from this, the government will also provide ambulances, add doctors and nurses and support professional allowances for health workers serving in this country.
Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin, who accompanied the President, was also immediately given instructions to immediately verify and ensure that the implementation was proceeding quickly.
The Miangas Community Health Center is the main health facility serving the entire Miangas Island community, so all its needs must be met as quickly as possible.
