Four men remanded in custody over alleged plot to attack mosque in Co Galway
Lawyers for four men accused of a terrorist plot aimed at attack a Galway mosque indicated that there is “potential for progress” before their trials.
The Director of Public Prosecutions served documents on each of the four defendants this morning explaining that their trials would take place before the Special Criminal Court made up of three judges and without a jury.
The four accused are Darren Gorman (33), O’Moore Place, Portlaoise Co Laois; Charles Flynn (35), Castlerock Avenue, Castleconnell, County Limerick; Garrett Pollock (35), Kilhorne Greene, Annalong, County Down; And Karolis Peckauskas (38), Newfoundwell Road, Drogheda, Co Louth.
They are each charged with attempting to engage in terrorist activity or terrorist-related activity to damage by fire the Maryam Mosque, Old Cottages, Monivea Road, Galway, with intent to damage or being reckless as to whether such property would be damaged, an aggravated hate crime, between 4 and 5 November 2025.
Peckauskas and Pollock are also accused of possessing two hatchets, brass knuckles and a hunting knife in a silver BMW in O’Moore Place, Portlaoise, on November 4, 2025, contrary to section 9(5) of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act, 1990.

Peckauskas and Pollock are further charged with possession of an explosive substance – four threaded pipe ends and six liters of hydrogen peroxide – under circumstances such as to give rise to a reasonable suspicion that they did not have it in their possession for a lawful object at O’Moore Place on November 4 of that year.
Pollock is also charged with possession of an explosive substance in circumstances such as to give rise to reasonable suspicion that he did not have it in his possession for a lawful object at An Tobar, Newfoundwell Road, Drogheda, Co Louth on the same date.
Lawyers for each defendant told the court today there is “potential for progress” when they appear in court again next month.
Judge Patrick McGrath, presiding, remanded each defendant until that date.
